CCAP 301 - The Creative Economy of the Berkshires |

Learning Objectives: Communicate effectively in different contexts, making clear the interdependence of language, thought, and expression. This course requires extensive writing. Students explore, synthesize and apply course concepts through detailed discussion board assignments associated with each course module. Use high quality, credible, relevant sources from diverse perspectives to appropriately defend positions. This course requires extensive writing. Students explore, synthesize and apply course concepts through detailed discussion board assignments associated with each course module. Synthesize information to construct a clear and insightful problem statement. Students explore the constructs of attracting the creative class as an economic development tool from historical and direct application in the community synthesizing information from a large variety of sources throughout the semester to clearly identify what issues contribute to economic development issues in the Berkshires. Apply the most appropriate approach(es) to solve problems. Students explore a variety of approaches towards the combination of creativity and economic development including exploration of historical approaches, exploration of approaches applied by other communities, and theoretical approaches examining their impacts to develop a personally held cognizant theory for how the community should proceed forward regarding the use of creative economic development theory. Draw conclusions by combining examples, facts, or theories from more than one field of study or perspective. The course culminates in students writing 2,000-2,500 word report synthesizing the Berkshires’ history, current status and future plans for growth relative to creative economy techniques that culminates in analysis and recommendations. Make explicit connections to previous learning and apply their knowledge and skills to demonstrate comprehension and performance in novel situations. Course materials are updated to regularly reflect changes in the community and contemporary situations. Students are asked to examine situations relative to their understanding of the broader constructs of the course. Reflect on their contributions to their communities. Students actively design potential solutions to creative economic issues currently experienced in the Berkshires. Reflect on the complexity of their own and others’ identities in relation to the course topic or problem.
